Diagnostic Mammography

What is a diagnostic mammogram?

A diagnostic mammogram is be performed for two main reasons:

(1) To help us understand any finding that we see on a screening mammogram

(2) To evaluate any symptom you might be having in your breast like a breast lump, breast pain, or nipple discharge

Similar to screening mammography, we can perform both 2D and 3D for diagnostic mammography.  The radiologist often will decide which is bet to use.

Diagnostic mammography images take around 5-10 minutes to acquire.

When does the diagnostic mammogram happen?

If we see an abnormality on your screening mammogram, we will perform the extra diagnostic images right away, while you wait.  You can always choose to come back another time if that is what you would prefer.  We will then give you the results of the imaging exams before you leave.

Do you use AI for your mammogram evaluations?

Yes!  We an AI tool on every mammogram that we interpret.  The AI tool is like a second set of eyes, to make sure we don't miss a breast cancer.  The AI tool that we using is called Profound AI.
